Travis Manion Foundation Week - Year 3
There are very few times in life when a moment or experience can change your view of the world, but two weeks ago I had the pleasure of co-hosting Travis Manion Foundation with Mark Weaver and Steven Tetreault at The 98 Fund - The Alaska Project. I'm not a huge 'post'er, but I'm a little overwhelmed by emotions (yes I do have them) because the pure power of vulnerability can lead to amazing things.
When you take people from all over this country and bring them together in the middle of a 50 acre property surrounded by a flowing mountain river and vast forests, who knows what to expect. We spent four days in search of a momma moose and her two babies who loved to roam the paths, but seldom came out of hiding enough for a few of us to catch a glimpse.
I was able to witness fear and anxiety transformed into confidence, amazing people coming together in support of each other, a transition of some dealing with the pain of loss, and a willingness to learn and try new things and take on tasks that may have seemed insurmountable in the past.
TMF is an organization truly focused on the health and wellbeing of survivor families and I can't say enough about their curriculum and their staff. Every single one of them was laser focused on the participating individuals. Not only did they rough it in our cabins, but they mastered all of the operational aspects of the week, took part in all activities and service projects, jumped in our 40-degree polar plunge, and hiked Gold Star PEak with us and Remedy Alpine.
It was a successful week and I believe that everyone left better off than when they arrived. Really glad to have been a part of this amazing group of people...
